Iranian Wrestlers Outshine Rivals on Day 1 of Asian Championships
TEHRAN (FNA)- Team Iran managed to stage a stunning performance on the first day of the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships underway in India with collecting 4 medals.

Beginning with the 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships in India, where Team Iran has concluded the first day of the competition with 4 medals, Greco-Roman wrestler Amin Mirzazadeh topped the podium in the 130-kg category, after overpowering his Korean rival 9-nil.

Iran won another gold, as Pouya Nasserpour defeated his Uzbek opponent 8-nil in the weight division of 55-kg.

Pejman Poshtam settled for Silver in the 77-kg weight class, following a 10-to-1 loss to his Kazak rival, and Meysam Delkhani pocketed a bronze in the 63-kg category.

In the overall standings of the men’s Greco-Roman category, Iran currently sits atop with 85 points, 5 clear of Kazakhstan, with Uzbekistan taking the 3rd spot. The competition will continue with the remaining weight categories on Wednesday.

Wrestling is one of most popular sports in Iran, and Iranian wrestlers are among the best practitioners of the field in the world making the country the world's powerhouse in the field and bringing home countless medals and titles from different tournaments and competitions around the world in a regular basis.

In a very recent case of Iranian freestyle wrestlers' success, last month, the national squad of Iranian freestyle wrestlers finished the 40th edition of Takhti Cup competitions with 245 points to claim the world title ahead of Armenia and Russia.

Iranian freestyle wrestlers with 245 points became champions of the 40th edition of Takhti Cup competitions ended in West of Iran.

Armenia and Russia with 175 and 25 points respectively stood at the second and third places.

In December, the freestyle squad of Bazar-e Bozorg-e Iran managed to garner the championship at the 6th World Wrestling Clubs Cup which was held in in the Northeastern Iranian city of Bojnourd.
