Iranian Chess Player Snatches Bronze at Int’l Competitions in Italy
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Chess player Amir Masoud Moradi managed to grab a bronze medal at the International Chess Open 2019 in the Italian city of Bergamo.

During the competitions between July 12 and 14 Moradi received a bronze medal.

Spokesman of Hamedan chess committee Hamid Foroughi said the event was held in presence of the world top chess players.

He added that Moradi with four victories, 2 draws and 5 points stood on the third place.

He had earlier received medal at Asian youth championships.

In January, Arash Tahbaz of Iran’s national outfit of chess players managed to score the highest points at 2019 Baku International Chess Championships in Azerbaijan, and was crowned as the best in the tournament.

Iranian chess player Arash Tahbaz won Baku International Chess Championships after he acquired seven points during nine games.

Baku International Chess Championships attended by 200 chess players from Azerbaijan Republic, Ukraine, Iran, Russia and Georgia was held in three categories on January 5-10.

Iranian chess players Arash Tahbaz, Ariya Omidi and Mohammad Sadeq Marzouqi represented Iran in the games which ended by introducing Tahbaz as the winner.

In Group A, Tahbaz made five wins and four draws gaining seven points to stand first in the competitions. Azeri and Ukrainian players came 2nd and 3rd respectively, each gaining five points in this group.

The last game of the competitions between Ariya Omidi and Azeri player ended in a draw but Omidi stood second in the total rankings.

In a related front, in late December, Iranian chess grandmaster Sarasadat Khademalsharieh finished second in the 2018World Rapid and Blitz Chess Competition in Russian port city of Saint Petersburg.

Khademalsharieh snatched the second place, winning the $25,000 prize, in a heated rivalry among 204 female chess grandmasters.

Chinese chess grandmaster Ju Wenjun won the first prize in women's tournament, with maybe some scary moments in the very last round. She finished a full point ahead of Khademalsharieh and the Russian grandmaster Aleksandra Goryachkina, who stood at the third place.

Three other Iranian chess players, namely Parham Maghsoodloo, Alireza Firouzja, Ehsan Ghaem Maghami represented the Islamic Republic in men’s section, where the world’s strongest chess players vied for titles.

Firouzja ranked sixth at the end of the competition, where Daniil Dubov from Russia won the first place.

Also Early in December, the World Chess Federation FIDE (the Fédération Internationale des Échecs) issued its latest world rankings, placing Khademalsharieh up by 11 spots in the 19th rank.
